Water Leaks

Do you think you have a water leak?  There are a number of ways you can spot the symptoms of a leak on your property, such as wet spots around your plumbing fixtures or a higher than normal water bill.  If you suspect you might have a leak, use the following steps:

1.  Turn off all faucets and water-using appliances, such as the dishwasher and washing machine.
2.  Locate your water meter box and lift the cover to see the meter dial.  Note the position of the sweep hand or use a marker on the lens cover.
3.  Wait 20-30 minutes (make sure no one uses water) and check the sweep hand location again.  If the sweep hand has moved you may have a leak somewhere in your system.
4.  Most meters have a flow indicator.  If you see it moving when all the water is off, you may have a leak.

If you find you have a leak, your next step is to figure out where the leak is located.  You can either find and fix the leak yourself or hire a professional.  West Slope Water District cannot repair leaks on your side of the water meter; any leak from the meter to the house or within the house is your responsibility.  The District cannot recommend specific plumbing companies or service providers.
